Koijee Rejects Reported CDC Leadership Shake-Up, Reaffirms Kowo as Chairman

MONROVIA, Liberia — Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary-General Jefferson Tamba Koijee has rejected a report alleging a shake-up within the party’s national leadership, describing the publication as false and intended to create divisions within the opposition movement.

Koijee, responding to the report, said Senator Nathaniel Fallo McGill was never appointed to the leadership position referenced in the publication.

He reaffirmed Attorney Janga Kowo as the CDC’s duly elected National Chairman, saying Kowo continues to enjoy the support of the party.

“For the record, at no time was Senator Nathaniel Fallo McGill ever appointed to such a portfolio,” Koijee said.

The CDC Secretary-General accused those behind the report of attempting to create confusion within the party and dismissed a claim that he would address the alleged leadership changes during his birthday in 2027.

Koijee maintained that the CDC has operated under democratic principles and internal structures throughout its 22-year existence.

He also pointed to former President George M. Weah’s peaceful transfer of power following the 2023 presidential election as an example of the democratic standards the party says it upholds.

“The precedent set by President Weah will not be betrayed,” Koijee said.

Looking ahead to the 2029 presidential election, Koijee expressed confidence in the CDC’s political prospects, referring to the upcoming contest as “The Final Destination.”

He said the 2029 election would ultimately be decided by Liberian voters and warned that any attempt to prevent a constitutionally mandated transfer of power would face resistance from the Liberian people and scrutiny from the international community.

Meanwhile, Koijee announced that the CDC will hold its annual Martyrs’ Day commemoration in Kinjor from November 4 to 7 under the theme: “They Carried the Struggle, We Carry Their Legacy.”

He called on CDC partisans to remain united and focused, urging them to disregard what he described as misinformation about the party’s leadership
