MONROVIA, Liberia — Speaker of Liberia’s House of Representatives Richard Nagbe Koon has left Monrovia for Guinea, where he will attend the formal opening of the country’s 2026–2027 parliamentary session before travelling to Ghana for discussions on Liberia’s preparations to host a major gathering of African legislative leaders.
Koon is visiting Conakry at the invitation of the President of Guinea’s National Assembly. The parliamentary session is scheduled to open on Monday, October 5, with related engagements continuing through October 7.
The visit is expected to bring the Liberian Speaker into talks with senior Guinean lawmakers and other officials on parliamentary cooperation, legislative oversight and democratic governance.
It also provides an opportunity for the two legislatures to exchange experiences and strengthen parliamentary ties between Liberia and Guinea.
After the Guinea visit, Koon is scheduled to travel to Ghana, where he is expected to meet with the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament.
The Ghana talks will include Liberia’s preparations to host the 4th General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Heads of African Parliaments (CoSPAL) from December 9–11, 2026.
Liberia is preparing to bring together Speakers and parliamentary leaders from across Africa for discussions on issues affecting the continent and the future of legislative cooperation.
Koon’s trip comes as Liberia seeks to deepen parliamentary relations within West Africa and strengthen its engagement with other African legislatures ahead of the CoSPAL gathering.
He is expected to return to Liberia after completing his official engagements in Guinea and Ghana.
