160 Interns Begin Training for School Monitoring Across Liberia

MONROVIA, Liberia — The Ministry of Education has begun training 160 Monitoring and Evaluation Interns to assist with school monitoring and the collection of education data under a new government initiative.

The training follows a nationwide recruitment and selection process and marks the interns’ transition into preparation for their field assignments.

The first group consists of 56 interns from Montserrado and Margibi counties, including 44 participants from Montserrado and 12 from Margibi.

Opening the training, Deputy Minister for Planning, Research and Development, Thomas M. Parker, emphasized the importance of accurate information from schools in guiding policy and decision-making within the education sector.

Parker said dependable school-level data can give the Ministry a clearer understanding of conditions in classrooms and help officials identify areas requiring attention and support.

The interns are being trained on Liberia’s education system, the Ministry’s priorities and their responsibilities as field monitors. The sessions also cover digital monitoring tools, tablet operations, data entry, documentation and reporting procedures.

After completing the training, participants will begin working with schools in their assigned areas, where they will assist with monitoring activities and gather information for the Ministry.

The program is expected to strengthen the Ministry’s access to timely and reliable information from schools, allowing officials to better track conditions, identify challenges and assess progress within the education system.

With the full group of 160 interns supporting the monitoring process across Liberia’s 15 counties, the Ministry aims to build a stronger evidence base for planning, resource allocation and education policy.
