MONROVIA, Liberia — The Civil Law Court has ordered Brussels Airlines to pay more than US$40,000 to Liberian lawyer Cllr. Urias S. Goll following a legal dispute involving the airline.
Goll’s legal team had asked the court to award US$300,000, arguing that the circumstances of the case and the harm suffered by their client warranted a substantially higher amount.
Following the ruling, Goll’s counsel, Atty. Jeremiah Samuel Dugbo I, objected to the court’s decision, maintaining that the amount awarded does not adequately reflect the extent of his client’s injury.
Dugbo argued that the court should have placed greater weight on the circumstances surrounding the case when determining the compensation payable to Goll.
The ruling represents a significant reduction from the amount sought by the claimant and leaves the two sides at odds over the appropriate level of compensation.
The court’s decision remains subject to any further legal action available to the parties under Liberian law.
