MONROVIA, Liberia — Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala has commended Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung for his recent engagements in infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, financial reform, and other sectors aimed at supporting Liberia’s development.
In a statement following a meeting with the Vice President late last week, Gbala said he acknowledged Koung’s efforts across several areas of national development and the potential benefits of the initiatives for citizens.
Gbala highlighted Koung’s reported involvement in efforts to support the rehabilitation of the Karnplay–Peelah Road in Nimba County from October 5 to 8, an initiative expected to improve transportation links and facilitate agricultural commerce.
He also referenced the Vice President’s September engagements aimed at mobilizing international support for a proposed US$22 million cancer diagnosis and treatment center, as well as promoting cooperation in agricultural technology and food security.
In the area of skills development, Gbala pointed to Koung’s participation in activities surrounding the dedication of the renovated Agricultural and Industrial Training Bureau (AITB) headquarters in Paynesville, which is intended to support technical and vocational education.
The statement further cited initiatives involving women’s empowerment, including support for the establishment of the Far East Community Women Center in Bong County.
Gbala also highlighted Koung’s engagements on financial-sector reform, particularly efforts to address non-performing loans and improve access to credit, alongside advocacy for private-sector investment, entrepreneurship, and job creation.
On the international front, he referenced the Vice President’s participation in discussions on nuclear safety and scientific infrastructure during the International Atomic Energy Agency’s General Conference in Vienna, Austria.
Gbala also cited Koung’s advocacy for timely salary payments, improved retirement benefits, and stronger public-service delivery.
While commending the Vice President’s engagements, the statement emphasized the potential contributions of these initiatives to Liberia’s development. The extent of their impact will depend on implementation, available resources, and measurable outcomes for citizens.
The statement reflects Gbala’s assessment of Koung’s recent activities and their relevance to the country’s development priorities.
