SASSTOWN, Grand Kru County — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested a 29-year-old woman and seized 16 boxes of Tramadol valued at LRD 1,176,000 during a checkpoint operation in Grand Kru County.
The agency identified the suspect as Amie M. Thomas, a Liberian resident of Monrovia, who was arrested at approximately 6:00 p.m. on October 7 by officers assigned to the LDEA’s Grand Kru Detachment.
According to the agency, the seized Tramadol has an estimated value of US$6,533.33.
Following preliminary investigations, Thomas was charged and forwarded to court for alleged narcotics-related offenses under Liberia’s amended drug law, the agency said.
The case marks another reported drug enforcement operation by the LDEA as authorities continue efforts to address the circulation of controlled substances in Liberia.
However, details regarding the intended destination of the seized drugs and the circumstances surrounding their transportation were not provided in the agency’s statement.
The allegations against Thomas remain subject to judicial proceedings, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
