2029 Presidential Hopeful Williams Proposes Two New Ministries to Drive Sports and Youth Development

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Eugene Tuan Wleh Williams has outlined plans to restructure government attention toward sports, entertainment and youth empowerment, proposing the creation of two specialized ministries as part of his emerging vision for Liberia ahead of the 2029 presidential elections.

Williams is advocating for the establishment of a Ministry of Sports and Entertainment and a separate Ministry of Youth Affairs and Development, arguing that both sectors require distinct institutional frameworks to address their challenges and maximize their contributions to national development.

Under his proposed administration, the Ministry of Sports and Entertainment would be responsible for advancing Liberia’s sporting and creative industries while providing greater protection and economic opportunities for athletes, musicians, actors, comedians and other entertainment professionals.

He believes the country has not done enough to support individuals who dedicate their careers to representing Liberia and promoting its cultural identity, particularly after they leave the spotlight.

Williams expressed concern that many former athletes and entertainers who once enjoyed national recognition have struggled to maintain their livelihoods after their careers or periods of popularity ended.

He wants a government system that provides more than public recognition, with policies and programmes designed to invest in talent, strengthen professional development and create sustainable income opportunities.

His proposal also seeks to position sports and entertainment as important contributors to employment generation, creativity and economic growth.

Williams Wants Dedicated Ministry for Youth

In addition to the proposed sports and entertainment ministry, Williams wants a separate Ministry of Youth Affairs and Development to address the broader needs and aspirations of young Liberians.

The proposed institution would focus on education, student representation, leadership training, mentorship, academic opportunities, children’s rights, social justice and partnerships with youth and student organizations nationwide.

Williams believes combining youth development with sports and entertainment could limit the attention given to other important issues affecting young people.

He maintains that participation in sports and entertainment is not limited to young people, making it necessary for the two sectors to have separate government structures and responsibilities.

While the sports and entertainment ministry would cater to professionals and talents across different age groups, the youth ministry would concentrate on preparing young people for leadership, expanding educational opportunities and strengthening their participation in national affairs.

A Governance Proposal Ahead of 2029

The proposals represent part of Williams’ developing political agenda as he looks toward the 2029 presidential contest.

His position highlights the need for stronger government involvement in sectors that directly influence employment, national identity, talent development and the future of Liberia’s younger population.

However, translating the proposals into government policy would require clear institutional mandates, financial commitments, legislative approval and mechanisms to ensure accountability and effective implementation.

The creation of two additional ministries would also require consideration of their financial implications and how their responsibilities would complement or differ from those of existing government institutions.

Williams’ proposals place the future of Liberia’s sports and entertainment professionals, alongside the empowerment of young people, at the center of his emerging development agenda.
